What Is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest holistic health systems originating from the Indian sub-continent and is the sister science of Yoga. It views every individual as a unique balance of the five elements or ‘building blocks’ of life;  namely ether, air, fire, water and earth.   Incorrect food, lifestyle, and external factors can disrupt this delicate balance and manifest in disease.  Ayurveda seeks to relieve this by addressing the root cause, not simply papering over the cracks or masking symptoms with medication.  Ayurveda views digestion as fundamental to our physical and mental wellbeing.  All food and drink and experiences need to be correctly digested and ‘processed’ in order to maintain good health.  Ayurveda therefore addresses nutrition, gut health and daily routines as part of the ‘prescription’ to achieving a long, happy and health life and helping you to have a smooth, happy pregnancy.
